That’s what the Bernese igloo-builders have been waiting for. Now they can start building their snow houses before welcoming the first guests.
There are various places where you can spend the winter under a roof of snow. You will have thick fur blankets to keep you warm as you soak up the romantic ambience created by the flickering candlelight.
Engstligenalp: Sleeping-Igloo and Fondue-Igloo
Sleeping under a roof of snow on the Engstligenalp is a most romantic experience indeed. Besides staying the night, guests enjoy a 3-course dinner at the Berghotel Engstligenalp in the evening. Round off your experience the next morning with a delicious breakfast buffet. If you do not want to sleep in an igloo, you can enjoy a convivial evening with friends or family over a warming fondue. The Fondue-Igloo is comfortably furnished and comes with a unique fondue mix. Fondue-iglu.ch (German)
Stockhorn: The "On-An-Island" Igloo
Sun and fun for all! Allow yourself to become enchanted by this stunningly beautiful setting and enjoy an evening with your friends or family in the unique atmosphere of our igloo. The igloo at the frozen lake Hinterstocken provides for a unique adventure and event location. Lots of different and interesting winter activities like ice fishing, snow tubing, winter hiking and snowshoeing are carried out from here. But those who prefer to take things a little more leisurely can also enjoy a small snack such as Cheese Fondue or hot drinks, the sunshine and the peaceful atmosphere whilst reclining in a sun-lounger. Kemmeriboden-Bad: The Pure-Romance Igloo
The two igloos are set up in the garden of the Hotel Kemmeriboden-Bad. In the larger one – the Igloo-Restaurant, which is also open to guests who don't sleep in the igloo – there are thick skins on the wooden benches to help keep you warm while you are enjoying your fondue. The smaller igloo is for sleeping: The large bed comes with warm blankets and skins so as to keep you well warm and snug. Kemmeriboden.ch (German)
Gstaad: The Wow-Effect Igloo
In Gstaad you really are spoilt for choice. They don’t only have one igloo, but they actually have an Igloo-Village. These "snow rooms" come in various categories and are each set up differently. While the Group-Igloo is more functional, the walls of the Romantic Suite are decorated with elaborate ice sculptures, and the igloo terrace has a private outdoor Jacuzzi. The Igloo-Village also boasts a wellness complex, a snow bar, a restaurant and a heated barbecue hut, where various events are also held. Iglu-dorf.com
