Award-winning Gerzensee Castle
In 2019, the Hotel Schloss Gerzensee won the Swiss Location Award in the category ‘Most Beautiful Conference Location in Switzerland’. And yet the prestigious country estate dating from 1700 remains a hidden gem. The castle complex located up on the Belpberg mountain some 20 km outside the capital includes its own lake complete with boathouse and stunning views of the Bernese Alps. The Swiss National Bank took over the ownership of Gerzensee Castle in 1980 and runs the Gerzensee Study Centre Foundation on its premises. The conference facilities are designed to accommodate up to 160 participants, with the hotel offering 57 rooms and its own restaurant.
Mediaeval Thun Castle
Thun Castle sits majestically enthroned on the castle rock above the city. The views of the foothills of the Alps, the old town centre and the lake are as magnificent as the choice of amenities. Since 2014, the renovated New Castle has been home to a conference and training centre, a boutique hotel with restaurant, and a castle café. Behind the thick walls are several group rooms, a large plenary hall, and a historic hall equipped with modern technology. The 17 double rooms with modern furnishings are located in the former prison wing overlooking the castle courtyard. Since 2019, Thun Castle has ranked among the most beautiful wedding locations in Switzerland, including a wedding reception room for 35 guests and the Knights’ Hall for drinks beforehand. interlaken.ch/schloss-thun
Schadau Castle, a "Gesamtkunstwerk"
Whether it’s for a monumental celebration or a sumptuous banquet with plenty of food for thought, the team at Schadau Castle, also located in Thun, is certain to have the perfect setting for every occasion. Schadau Castle was originally built as the summer residence for a Neuchâtel banker and, since 2019, it has re-emerged resplendent following the complete renovation of this listed property. It now features a boutique hotel with nine individually appointed rooms, a restaurant, and banquet and seminar rooms. The castle is set in the Schadau-Park, which is some 3.6 hectares in size and modelled on an English garden, directly on the southern shore of Lake Thun. schloss-schadau.ch
Elegant surroundings at Hünigen Castle
Situated between Berne and Thun, or Konolfingen to be more precise, this genuine gem awaits its visitors. Hünigen Castle at the entrance to the Emmental valley is a popular choice for wedding receptions. And yet the 16th century building is also ideally suited for business events and team-building ventures. The seminar rooms range between 27 and 175 square metres in size and accommodate up to 250 participants. Another highlight is the free-standing seminar pavilion in the extensive grounds, ideal for concentrating on work in the middle of a natural setting. The hotel has 49 rooms in the modern style, and the Rosarium Restaurant has garnered 13 Gault-Millau points. schlosshuenigen.ch
New life at Burgdorf Castle
After two years of renovation work, Burgdorf Castle was once again awakened from its beauty sleep in Sommer 2020. More than 800 years old, the Zähringer edifice up on the castle rock along the Emme river is the ideal setting to meet, wed, celebrate, marvel, study, and sleep. The premises include not just the museum with educational programmes for schools, but also the Schloss Burgdorf Restaurant, a modern youth hostel, a historic wedding reception chamber, and several banquet and seminar rooms. The Assizes Hall is the largest room, accommodating 60 to 80 guests on 87 square metres. For a more exclusive event, there is also the possibility of booking the entire castle premises.
Münchenwiler Castle: a haven of concentration
The magnificent halls of Münchenwiler Castle near Murten are also a beautiful setting for a business meeting. Once the residence of Cluniac monks, the castle complex was later extended as a residence for Bernese feudal lords. The secluded park with its giant redwood trees and ancient herb garden offers the peace and quiet necessary to concentrate on the next great business idea. The Romanesque castle church is still used for church services to this day, adding a spiritual note to the premises. In the evening, there are ample opportunities to try your hand at archery by torchlight, sample a whisky or two, and savour the Menu du Château within almost millennial castle walls.schloss-muenchenwiler.ch (german)
