Fresh air, glorious sunshine and the glistening magic of snow: in this special corona winter, people are even more drawn to the outdoor activities and the mountains. And here, the Region of Bern boasts a wide range of new and varied attractions that guarantee enjoyment during the coldest season of the year.
The intergenerational project in the Jungfrau Region
The opening of the second gondola lift of the intergenerational V-Cableway project in the Jungfrau Region of course tops the news list. Starting from 5 December, the new tricable gondola lift “Eiger Express” will whisk visitors from the Grindelwald Terminal to the Eiger Glacier in under 15 minutes. It allows visitors to reach the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski area faster than ever before and enjoy a unique view of the imposing north face of the Eiger. For non-skiers, the journey to the legendary Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe destination continues with only one changeover to the Jungfrau Railway.
Nearly like the big ones: a new slope for kids
Snow tunnels, obstacles and artificial waves are just some of the features on the new «Lilly’s Kidsslope» adventure course on the Allmendhubel in the Mürren ski area. Fun and enjoyment are guaranteed when young skiers hone their skills on this course and learn from all the new experiences they gain here. The newly opened course runs parallel to the main ski slope and can be easily reached by funicular from Mürren.
On your toboggans, get set, go!
A new toboggan run in Aeschiried near Spiez, in the Interlaken holiday region, meanwhile awaits discovery by young and old. It leads down from the Allmispitz to Scheidmattstrasse, is about 2.5 kilometres long and promises a thrilling descent. The climb up on foot from the Aeschiried car park takes around half an hour and leads past a ski lodge – perfect place for enjoying a short break with some cake and a warming mug of Ovo (please note the opening hours) before letting the wind whistle past your ears on a toboggan.
Be pampered by an award-winning chef and enjoy a 360-degree panorama
What would a winter's day in the mountains be like without an oasis in which to relax and enjoy life? It's the very reason why the new head of mountain gastronomy for Destination Gstaad, Marcus G. Lindner, will be opening the new Eggli Mountain Restaurant on the Eggli, Gstaad's local mountain. 360-degree panoramic views across the Bernese, Vaudois and Fribourg Alps all come included. From this winter on, visitors will be able to treat themselves to culinary delights from this award-winning chef from the state of Vorarlberg while soaking up the winter sun on the viewing terrace.
Experience crafting, tinkering and amazement at the "Station"
If the weather is ever too miserable for outdoor activities, then the old fire station in Saanen is the perfect place in which to spend an exciting day of experimentation and discovery in warmth. Fixed paths and ropes dictate everything that happens here. The maze of ropes, cog wheels, cranks and giant marble runs in the "Station" experimentation and discovery space will fascinate not only children. The concept behind the new project: the "Station" is a place where everything still operates offline, making it a place of contrasts to our digital world. Crafting and tinkering takes place at various work stations, while former gondola cabins serve as rest areas.
