Cycling extravaganza in Bern

The canton of Bern turns into a cycling paradise each summer with a host of competitions for all ages. These range from fun-filled events to rides on which you will work up a real sweat.
From the Emmental to the Bernese Oberland there is a route to suit every keen cyclist. Here you can live out your passion on two wheels – in both summer and winter.

Ride the Alps Susten

As part of the "Ride the Alps" event series, Swiss Alpine mountain passes will be exclusively open for cyclists on selected dates. On 26 May, the Susten Pass will be the sole domain of keen cyclists. Ride the Alps Susten marks the start of these cycling events and will be held in the Bernese Oberland. The route takes you from Innertkirchen along the magnificent pass road and up to the top of the pass.

Tour de Suisse stage stopover in Gstaad

The Tour de Suisse will be returning to Gstaad on 12 June 2018 after 24 years. The next day, the riders will set off from Gstaad and tackle the remaining 5 stages. The tour covers over 1,300 kilometres and 17,500 altitude metres through all parts of Switzerland.

Hallo Velo Bern

Fun and sports combined? Is that really possible? Yes, at the Hello Velo Bern festival it is. The festival is to be held on 5 August on a 40 km circuit around the city of Bern and the surrounding area. Included are a variety of zones to suit young and old as well as active sports people and leisure cyclists.

Eiger Bike Challenge

From 22 to 88 km and from 1,000 to 3,900 altitude metres: this year’s challenge now, for the first time, lets you cover 33 km on an e-mountain bike. The choice is yours, so take up the challenge that suits you best and participate on 11 / 12 August. But be warned - you’re sure to sweat buckets!

Alpenbrevet

The 40th Swiss Cycling Alpenbrevet starts on 25 August 2018 with 4 tours to choose from. The silver, gold and platinum tours start and end in Andermatt and traverse a section of the Bernese Alps while the bronze tour from Meiringen to Andermatt commences in the canton of Bern. This tour takes you over the Grimsel and Furka passes before ending up in the Uri mountain village of Andermatt. A special feature of this bronze tour is that time measurement can be dispensed with.

Bergkönig Gstaad

The Bergkönig Gstaad is Switzerland’s festival for vintage bicycles. EKZ Cross Touri

This is a major milestone for Swiss cyclocross. Now, after eight years, the prestigious cyclocross world cup will be returning to Switzerland. On Sunday, 21 October 2018, the world's top cycling crossers will be meeting at Bern’s Weyermannhaus open-air swimming pool.

Snow Bike Festival Gstaad

Next year, from 24 to 27 January, there will be a quite spectacular event held in Gstaad. The Snow Bike Festival is, in fact, the world’s first mountain bike race on snow. Given the slippery surface, an action-packed spectacle is guaranteed.

Tour de Bern

The Tour de Bern is open to all – everyone from amateur cyclists to the international elite. The tour includes a choice of two routes of varying lengths in the Bernese Seeland. Even children and companies can take part along the route they choose.The Tour de Bern will not be held in 2018.
