Immerse yourself in the different worlds of the museums

How do you make cheese? How do you build an alphorn? How did our ancestors live? Come to the many museums in the Region of Bern to find the answers.
Walk in the footsteps of Albert Einstein, admire the most important selection of works by Paul Klee, visit the world of the gold prospectors or travel to the Stone Age. This and much more is made possible by the different museums in the City of Bern. A special highlight is the Night at the Museums. Thousands of night owls visit Bern’s cultural institutions every year in March between 6pm and 2am. The visitors’ eyes are not only drawn to the exhibitions, but also to the façades of the museums which are bathed in light and thus, give a magical atmosphere to the entire city. Experience the traditional side of Switzerland, epitomised by the Bernese Oberland. In Interlaken, for example, visitors learn all about the alphorn manufacture. Fans of suspense-thrillers should head to Meiringen where they can immerse themselves in the world of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

Enjoy hands-on experience and be amazed

Come close to farm animals, play with traditional toys and enjoy a pony ride – welcome to the Open-air Museum Ballenberg which stretches out over 66 hectares. The cultural institution offers fun for young and old alike. The “Hands-on-House” is particularly popular. Here, visitors are allowed to do what is strictly forbidden in other museums: the historical items can be touched and examined from all angles.
