Step by step to the finishing line: high performance on the way to the peak

Participants of the Jungfrau Marathon need to conquer 42 km, accompanied by the unique panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
The beauty of the marathon is only surpassed by its popularity and its excellent reputation. Participant numbers are limited to protect the environment, and places sell out in record time. The start line in Interlaken is easily accessible by train. From here, the course leads runners via its highest point at 2,095 m to the finishing line on the Kleine Scheidegg. A special challenge sets the “Wall of Wengen” where runners need to conquer a steep climb with a difference in altitude of 500 m. In total, the participants face an ascent of 1,829 m in altitude and a descent of 305 m. The list of winners holds famous names, such as Tesfaye Eticha and Marco Kaminski. The mini marathon, the minirun and the pararace offer a glimpse of the marathon’s endeavours.

Music as support

The marathon’s settings underline its uniqueness. The runners are supported by flag throwers, alphorn blowers and bell bearers. And all this, surrounded by traditional mountain villages, the big three mountains of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and Lake Brienz. The last 400 m see the participants work their way up the Eiger Glacier. The traditional highlight also marks the end of the Jungfrau Marathon: the sound of Scottish bagpipes accompanies runners through the finishing line.
