Jungfraujoch

Home of the highest-altitude post office in Europe

The Jungfraujoch is a synonym for records: guests arrive at the highest-altitude railway station in Europe and come face to face with the Aletsch glacier which is unrivalled throughout Europe.
At an average of -7.9°C (17.78°F) and 1700 hours of sun the Jungfraujoch is accessible within 2 hours from Interlaken all year round. Visitors travel either via Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald past the Kleine Scheidegg mountain pass and continue with the Jungfrau Railway through the Eiger and Mönch. Visitors will get an insight into the dramatic story of how the Jungfraujoch was developed thanks to the 250-m-long corridor which visually and acoustically portrays the project from start to finish. At the end of the corridor a giant snow globe creates a winter atmosphere. Those who wish to explore the surroundings further should visit the Mönchsjoch Hut. On the way to the hut you will pass through the UNESCO World Heritage site Jungfrau-Aletsch.

One spectacular view after another

Take a look out of the panoramic window at the Eiger and you can’t stop being amazed: you are greeted with an uninterrupted view of the glacier world. The only thing that beats this view is the one from the Sphinx and Plateau platforms. Regardless of the weather, the Jungfrau panorama is always a hot spot. A 360° view allows visitors to take in all facets of the mountain landscape: from fluffy clouds to icy crevasses and giant masses of snow.

Icy art made by nature and humans

The fascination of ice can be discovered in many different ways all around the Jungfraujoch. At the Eismeer station visitors can travel back in time: ice blocks, snow and the 4,000-metre-high mountain peaks in the background portray the landscape of Switzerland in the olden days. And the Ice Palace welcomes its visitors to a world which was created in the 1930s and where artists nowadays use to display their delicate ice sculptures.
