At the end of the 12th century, the Dukes of Zähringen founded Burgdorf and built a splendid residential castle. Today, the castle
is Switzerland’s most complete and best-preserved Zähringen castle. It is currently being restored and will soon host a museum, restaurant and a youth hostel. The castle hill offers ideal views of the Old Town with its patrician houses from the late Baroque period, the Bernese Alps and the granary quarter in the lower town. The Hotel Stadthaus offers the appropriate place to reside for all fans of glamour. Its luxury décor is only topped by the history of its location.
