Burgdorf

Visitors walk on historical paths in the town at the river Emme

In 1899, Europe’s first fully electrified railway line led through Burgdorf. Today, the municipality in the Emmental offers its visitors even more: exciting events, excursions and cultural diversity.
At the end of the 12th century, the Dukes of Zähringen founded Burgdorf and built a splendid residential castle. Today, the castle is Switzerland’s most complete and best-preserved Zähringen castle. It is currently being restored and will soon host a museum, restaurant and a youth hostel. The castle hill offers ideal views of the Old Town with its patrician houses from the late Baroque period, the Bernese Alps and the granary quarter in the lower town. The Hotel Stadthaus offers the appropriate place to reside for all fans of glamour. Its luxury décor is only topped by the history of its location.

Crime scene Burgdorf

Amateur detectives and fans of murder mystery can awaken their inner Sherlock Holmes at the Burgdorf Crime Days. For 10 days, 50 versatile events pay tribute to this popular genre. Those who prefer culinary delights can discover the region’s specialities in the show dairies. An experience for all your senses can be found at the Sensorium, which hosts 40 interactive displays.

On your pedals, get set, go

Not only is the town of Burgdorf ideal for cyclists, but the Emmental valley with its many cycling paths is also waiting to be explored by bicycle. The scenic viewpoint Lueg, situated at 878 m, offers wonderful views of the region. Visitors to the nature garden in Rohrbachgraben can learn about more than 1,000 plants.
