For happy wanderers of all sorts

Where to go hiking is like everything else in life: people’s preferences are as varied as people are themselves. The diverse Bern Region has a special "favourite" just waiting for you to discover. We introduce six hikes that are sure to excite happy wanderers of every type.

Wispile – Lake Lauenen

The cable car is an easy and convenient way to reach the Berghaus Wispile restaurant. It isn’t hard to find the hiking trail: just follow the ridge and enjoy the panoramic view of the Saanenland. At the Chrinetritt, the path descends steeply to the Chrine Pass. Follow the mountain trail downhill to the nature reserve at Lake Lauenen.

Make time to discover the true treasures of this wild mountain valley that forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The well-tended hiking trails lead through striking scenery along the Kander river to the Kanderfirn glacier. Along the way, cosy inns and mountain huts offer opportunities for stopping off. Mountain hikers and climbers will also find the Gasterntal an ideal starting point for tours.

Woodcarving Trail Axalp

There is no way that you will be bored as you make your way between the Restaurant Axalpstübli (right next to the Axalp Sportbahnen bus stop) and the Hinterburgsee: Here more than 100 carved figures line the path. Some of the local sculptors carved these figures into the tree trunks which had been knocked over by the Lother storm.

Stechelberg – Mürren

If you wish to go walking through picture-postcard scenery you should take the train to Mürren and then follow the well-signposted trail via Gimmelwald to Stechelberg. In this wild Alpine landscape, you feel you can almost touch the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Do take your camera with you!

Sentier des Sculptures

Between Lamboing and Mont Sujet there are wild boars sleeping peacefully on the edge of the trail, huge snails climbing up tree trunks and marmots practically whistling in your ears – these carved figures will lend wings to your imagination and ensure that even your children will walk through the forest without grumbling.

Adventure Trail Mutzbachfall

The way to the 14-metre-high waterfall at the Mutzbach Falls takes you through the tranquil Mutzgraben valley. This easy circular hike from Riedtwil-Wynigen takes a good three hours with most of the route passing through dense forest, where the sounds of the brook accompany you along the way.
