For happy wanderers of all sorts

Where to go hiking is like everything else in life: people’s preferences are as varied as people are themselves. The diverse Bern Region has a special "favourite" just waiting for you to discover. We introduce six hikes that are sure to excite happy wanderers of every type.

Choleren Gorge

An imposing spectacle! Over thousands of years, the thundering waters have eaten through the hard rock in the Engstligen Valley. Be immersed in an enchanted world of water, walk over footbridges and steps by rugged rocks and past a variety of water mills.

Aare Gorge

As it flows from the Grimsel World to the Seeland, the Aare eats its way through the Haslital. Over the course of the millennia, it has cut a broad path through the rock – the Aare Gorge. With its well-developed system of bridges, approximately half of the gorge is also accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Gorges de Perrefitte

In the Bernese Jura, as the hills start to lose their gently rolling appearance, the mystical Gorges de Perrefitte lies concealed not far from Moutier. The route starts in the village of the same name. This circular path is well signposted and takes you through nature trails and over wooden steps through the wild and romantic gorge. The Restaurant de l'Etoile awaits at your goal with its sophisticated regional cuisine.

Kander Falls

The Kander Falls are located at the entrance to the Gastern Valley. There actually are people who take a taxi to Selden when they visit the valley. This is a pity, because just after Kandersteg they miss the narrow Chlus Gorge with the impressive Kander Falls. The hike to Selden takes about an hour.

Oberstockensee on the Stockhorn

The Oberstockensee is nestled in the idyllic landscape between the Simmental and the Stockhorn. Those who do not want to climb their way up can take the cable car from Erlenbach to the Chrindi middle station and follow the signs to the lake. Afterwards, it is well worth taking a detour to the Oberstockenalp, where you can not only enjoy the stunning views from the mountain inn, but also a meal fit for royalty.

Lake Arnen circular hike

This circular route around the refreshing Lake Arnen is dotted with information boards that reveal fascinating facts about trees and fishing in the area. You can also hire a pedalo or boat to cool off and relax on the lake.
