10,000 km of hiking trails for tours of every colour

There is a lot to discover on the numerous hiking trails in the Canton of Bern: from dense forests to breathtaking mountain vistas and emerald-green lakes.
Through romantic valleys and wild gorges, past thunderous waterfalls, across colourful fields of flowers and breathtaking panoramic trails: the Canton of Bern offers endless possibilities for hikers.

The Bernese Oberland offers the perfect route for every hiking enthusiast

Those who prefer a leisurely walk should head to the Griesalp where authentic mountain guesthouses invite guests to linger. A special highlight is the trip down to the valley. The route from the Griesalp to Kiental is said to be Europe’s steepest public transport (PostBus) route. A spectacular event is the high-altitude hike Schynige Platte-Faulhorn-First. Over a distance of 15 km, this trail guides hikers along the rock formations of the Faulhorn range. Down in the valley Lake Brienz and Lake Thun are glistening in the sun and the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau serve as the backdrop. The ascent from Mülenen in the Kandertal to the Niesen takes 5 hours. This mountain is also home to the longest staircase in the world. Hikers who hope to take a shortcut via the stairs and along the railway will be disappointed. The 11,674 stairs only open once a year in June for the Niesen Stairway Run event. With its 300 km of signalled hiking trails, Gstaad is among Switzerland’s top hiking destinations. The routes will guide hikers past moor landscape, through deep gorges and on imposing mountains.
