Discover regional winter hiking routes by fatbike

Mountain bikers can also pursue their hobby in the Bernese Oberland in winter – thanks to fatbikes equipped with extra-wide tires. Now there is nothing to stop the adrenalin rush.
Enjoying the sun’s rays on a sea of fog, hearing snow crunch under the tires, feeling the wind on one’s skin and escaping the everyday stress of the city: there are many reasons to go fatbiking. So it’s no surprise that this sport is becoming more and more popular; after all, mountain bikers can also practice their hobby in the winter.

The Bernese Oberland discovers a fashionable sport

If you want to jump onto one of these mountain bikes with oversized tires, you are in exactly the right place in the Bernese Oberland. Sunnbüel near Kandersteg (German) has its own piste section for the visitors. Unique in Switzerland: the ski lift with which the riders can allow themselves to be pulled onto the piste. The 18-kilometre-long winter bike tour from Schwarenbach to Gemmipass offers a sporting challenge. Gstaad also has various routes in store for fatbikers. On the Sparenmoos, visitors can find both beautiful round tours and entertaining descents. The 10-kilometre-long Full Moon Bike Tour from Gstaad to Gsteig comes particularly highly recommended.

The fascination of fatbiking

In January, visitors to Gstaad have the opportunity to marvel at the professionals during four days of exciting downhill races. The Snow Bike Festival is the first mountain bike race to be held on snow. The competition is listed as the official “Union Cycliste Internationale” race and enables the professionals to gather valuable UCI points.
