Flower power with a view

The Niederhorn features more than 120 kilometres of hiking trails, on which the spectacular views of the Alps and Lake Thun will be your constant companion. The gondola lift to the peak runs until beginning of December. Many trails lead to the large colonies of ibex, chamois and marmots. For adventurers, OS maps are available at the top station with information on three family-friendly hikes. And for a breezy trip back down the mountain, there are scooters for hire.

Autumn experiences on the Niederhorn

The picturesque fishing village of Iseltwald is situated on Lake Brienz. At this time of year, the surrounding slopes are aglow with glorious autumn colour. Stop off at one of the excellent restaurants for some refreshments before your walk. Then follow the lakeside path – the turquoise waters on one side, the richly coloured trees on the other – until you reach the striking Giessbach Falls close to the eponymous Grandhotel Giessbach.

Hike along the shores of Lake Brienz
